Infusing insights about how students learn into the shaping of policies
and practices requires attention by senior academic administrators as
well as at the departmental level.
In this week's PKAL postings, we present an essay about how provosts,
deans and other senior administrators can keep the focus on the quality
and character of student learning. A candidate for the departmental
"tool-box" for ensuring that student learning is at the center of
departmental deliberations is also presented, adapted from an exercise
at a PKAL workshop. Finally, we direct your attention to the valuable
resource about assessment of student learning, in the archive of the
National Institute for Science Education.
